Dad's favorite saying the past year was "I'm fortunate to be alive at 94 and if I make it to my birthday, I'll be 95" . He didn't quite make it as he passed away at home on July 26, 2010. Harold, the second and youngest child of Walter and Minnie Moriarty, was born in Vancouver, WA on Oct. 26, 1915. He attended Providence Academy in the primary years and graduated from old Fort Vancouver High School in 1934. An avid tennis player, Mike met his wife Betty on the tennis courts and after a short courtship they were married on March 1, 1939. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in March 2009 before his "beautiful wife" passed away on Oct. 1, 2009. Mike was a union pressman and retired in October 1980, ending 34 years with Pioneer Printing and Stationery Co. in Vancouver, WA. He started working there in August 1946 after serving with the U.S. Army, in Germany, in World War II. Mike bowled for many years on bowling leagues at Vancouver Bowl and was inducted into the Clark County Bowling Associations "Hall of Fame" in September 1985. Mike loved Hawaii, the Portland Blazers, the Seattle Mariners, convertible cars, the Lawrence Welk Show, and "Scottie" dogs. Mike is survived by one daughter, Kathy (Denny) Olin; and one son, Terry (Donna) Moriarty. Mike enjoyed his three grandchildren, Amy (Tim) Gillis, Megan (Steve) Dougherty, and Daren Moriarty; and four great-grandchildren, McHale and Dillon Dougherty and Cole and Claire Gillis. Special thanks and love to his caregivers for the past year, Terry Hall, Kathy Bax, Eve Wickens, Alicia Balassa, and most recently, Frank Cobb. Thanks also to Dr. Jon Vinson and Hospice for their support and care for the past three months.
