March 1, 1924 ~ April 19, 2017

Dick Tortorello passed from this Earth on April 19, 2017 with his family around him as he would have wanted, family meant everything to him.
He was born on March 1, 1924 in Brookfield, IL to Carmen and Stella Tortorello. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill and Don; daughter-in-law, Karen; and granddaughter, Kelsey.
A proud veteran of WWII, Dick enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served aboard the USS Willoughby in the South Pacific. After his discharge, Dick met the love of his life Florence Czernik, they married on June 21, 1947 and spent the next 70 years together.
In 1962, Dick was given the opportunity to transfer within the company he worked for, National Can, from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest to the little town (at least at the time) known as Vancouver, WA, a move they never regretted. They spent the next 17 years here before transferring to California in 1979 where they eventually retired before returning to Vancouver in 2014.
Dick loved to fish, bowl, and was active in youth baseball as a coach but most of all he loved to golf. After retiring in 1986, Dick and Flo remained in California where the weather was more conducive to golfing year round and played 2-3 times a week into his 90's.
Richard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Florence; his sister, Laverne; sons, Rick (wife Sue) and Gary (significant other, Deborah Bernal); granddaughters, Heather (Eliot) and Rebecca, Kristi; and great-grandson, Kingston.
Services are to be held this Friday, April 28th at Evergreen Memorial Gardens at 12:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
